10 Cascading LED Circuit

10led.gif (42138 bytes)

This is a cool and easy to build electronics project. The 555 Timer IC is set up in astable mode to produce a 75% duty-cycle, 19.2 Hz waveform. The possible uses for this circuit are nearly infinite. One good idea might be using this as a replacement for a bike reflector. You could make five of the LEDs red and the other five green to make it a bit more interesting. VCC Should probably be anywhere from 4.5 V to 5.5 V. Enjoy.

I originally designed this printed circuit board in this manner to be a replacement for the reflector behind the seat of a bike. When I constructed this circuit, I used red LEDs for the first five and green for the others. Also, I used a high-current (1 Amp) 7805 regulator in a TO-220 package. However, it turns out that this circuit only consumes about 20 mA. So, you could replace the 7805 with a lower-current regulator in a smaller TO-92 package. Enjoy.
